I must say that I was truly surprised when I listened to this four tracks EP. I've known some of Anibal Miranda's previous work, especially the one from the early eighties' singles and projects, and was not at all expecting this line of work.
Less rockier and more into en elegant kind of Pop, with a healthy infusion of Indie and Alternative lines of work, these new songs are really refreshing and indeed suitable as a soundtrack for a perfect vacation.
It might be possible that my feelings and emotions are taking over me - as all good music ought to provoke such reactions - but this record created in me several soundscapes and cinematic images, allowing me to travel to other times and places.
The guitars in "Fegefeuer" are simply delicious with their intricate dialogues and atmospheres, sailing among the remnants of a certain Mediterranean nostalgia and the longing for a hazy Summer sunset...
Though more synth oriented, "Exhale" brought to mind a certain sound from Manchester's heyday and some of the ambiances produced by the Factory label, namely The Durutti Column... A perfect song for relaxing, with a glass of malted Scotch in your hands when thoughts of yesteryears cloud our minds in a tender and peaceful way.
The third track, "Crickets and Flowers", is probably the most cinematic of all, staging the action in a Languedocian countryside landscape, evoking some of the tunes often associated with the late sixties and seventies French movies, with all that naivety and freshness that unpretentious Pop tunes seem to possess.
Last, but by no means least, "Sur Fin" lives up to its character. With a more uptempo beat, the song mixes both the excitement of departure and the frenzy of arrival at any given port... With the promise of both a farewell and the yearning for experiences past, it's a perfect epilogue for the travel in which we have embarked .
As in all vacations, this record leaves an aftertaste of bittersweetness, either by the shortness of its duration, either by the warm feelings and memories that are now part of us.
A great journey to be part of..."
